Prior to joining the Institute, Dr. Miller worked as a consultant
to many healthcare organizations including the Georgia Medicaid
Program, the Georgia Hospital Association, the Medical Resource
Network, Morehouse School of Medicine, Egleston Children's Hospital,
and Emory Egleston Pediatric Care Foundation. This consulting involved
providing data analysis, advisement, and project management services
on a variety of projects including Quality Impact of a Medicaid
Primary Care Case Management; Quality Impact of a Mental Health
and Mental Retardation Program for Nursing Home Residents; Impact
Modeling and Implementation of a Statewide Hospital DRG Reimbursement
Initiative; HMO Program Encounter Data Design, Processing and Analysis;
Calculation and Validation of State Health Check Screening Rates
for Children; Data Design for Study of the Impact of Managed Care
on Birth Outcomes and Diabetes; Operational Efficiency Assessments
of Primary Care and Urgent Care Children's medical Centers; and
Medical Group Provider Productivity Reports. Prior to the consulting
experience, he worked over eight years as Facility Administrator
with the Meridian Medical Group in Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to several ongoing research projects, Dr. Miller currently
teaches the Strategy course for the Institute of Health Administration
and Operations Management courses for the Management Department.
He has taught at the School of Public Health at Emory University
and the University of South Alabama. He has published in the Journal
of Quality Management and has presented many papers at academic
meetings including the American Public Health Association and the
Decision Sciences Institute. He is active in several professional
organizations including the Georgia Hospital Association, the American
Public Health Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives,
and the Decision Sciences Institute.
