Profile:
Dr. Newman's areas of expertise are in the general areas of health insurance, cost and utilization of health services, public policy in health care, and the design and data collection associated with surveys. He has published over 30 articles in leading academic journals, including Health Services Research, Medical Care, Social Sciences & Medicine, Inquiry, the Journal of Healthcare Management, and Managed Care Quarterly.

Before joining the Institute, he was Director, Research & Development for the Blue Cross & Blue Shield Association, as well as a consultant for the Medicus Systems Corporation. His previous faculty appointments include the College of Commerce and the College of Arts and Sciences, DePaul University, the School of Nursing & Allied Health and the School of Medicine at Rush University, and the Graduate School of Business, the University of Chicago.

Professionally, he is active in the Medical Care Section of the American Public Health Association, member of the Editorial (Governing) Board of Medical Care, Co-Chair of the Human Resource Management Faculty Forum of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

His current research projects include evaluations of the Georgia Medicaid program, the Division of Public Health, the Division of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse, and a Medicaid waiver program for disabled nursing home residents.
