HIPAA
The Center for Health Services Research at GSU is committed to
assisting the healthcare industry prepare for and successfully meet
the final regulations under the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). As one of the most wide-reaching
health care legislative measures passed in decades, HIPAA will impact
every aspect of the health care sector from hospitals and other
direct service providers to insurers and health care clearinghouses,
as well as consumers, research institutions and organizations. While
the implementation process of HIPAA may seem overwhelming to many,
effective education, assessment, planning, and implementation can
improve businesses' bottom lines by streamlining processes, decreasing
administrative cost, and ultimately improving cash flows. Perhaps
one of the most important assets of HIPAA is the improvement in
the quality of services that can be provided through the standardization
health information. By standardizing and consolidating health information,
providers will be able to more effectively treat their patients.
The Center for Health Services Research has sponsored and attended
numerous HIPAA compliance and implementation seminars and workshops
over the past several years. By working with such industry leaders
such as Dr. Bill Braithwaite of the DHHS, the Center is able provide
organizations with the most cost effective alternatives to address
HIPAA. The Center for Health Services Research has assembled a comprehensive
team of industry experts to assist organizations in the operational
implementation and ongoing monitoring of HIPAA regulations. We provide
